The closest shops for vital provisions are Scourie to the North, and Drumbeg to the South, both are a ten mile drive.
Larger stores and supermarkets can be found in Lochinver (17 miles) or Ullapool (32 miles).
If flying and hiring a car, our recommendation is to stock up with provisions at the Tesco Extra close to Inverness Airport on the A96.
ARRIVAL AT THE CROFT
About one mile before Kylesku you will see a sign to Newton on the right hand side. This directs you down a single track road.
You will need to open a gate three-quarters of the way down, and then another gate right at the bottom, which allows access to the Croft's enclosure. Its about 500 metre drive.
Please park in front of the croft on the grass.
The Croft has two access doors. On arrival it is easier to use the front door. Outside the back door you will find the logs and peat.
We turn the water off (outside under a small blue cover, in the ground, in front of the bathroom window) in the winter. It is a simple on/off tap.
The Croft is serviced by a septic tank.
TURNING ON THE POWER/HOT WATER
In the old days it was a generator and paraffin lamps but thankfully these days we are connected!
The power needs to be turned-on at the power box which is located in the built in cupboard by the backdoor. The switch (see the finger pointing in picture above) to "On".
The metre takes £1 coins. Please always make sure when you leave there is at least £10 of coins left for the next person.
The hot water is turned on at a switch in the cupboard to the left of the bathroom.
The oven and fridge are turned on by a marked switch in the kitchen between the sink and the window.
THE KITCHEN
It's not fancy but it has all you need!
Electric hob oven, fridge freezer, microwave, crockery, cutlery and other bits and pieces.
It also has an incredible view.
The kitchen has a log/peat burner and a round table with seating for four.
Next to the kitchen is a utility/boot room, with a washing machine and a dryer.
There is also a BBQ and big pots for the day your get that feed of mussels off the rocky beach.
THE BATHROOM
There is no bath but there is a great shower with excellent water pressure.
Please wipe down the glass on the shower unit after your shower to keep it looking nice and clean!
THE BEDROOMS
There are two bedrooms, a double and a twin.
Duvet and pillows are there, however, you will need to check with us about sheets, duvet and pillow cases.
Both rooms have side tables, side lights, built-in cupboards.
They are basic but that's all you need!
You can lie in bed and listen to the sound of the burn at night.
CLEANING
There is a utility cupboard near the power box, with a vacuum cleaner. All the main cleaning items are stored under the kitchen sink or in the cupboard next to the bathroom.
THE LOUNGE
The Lounge has a selection of comfy seats and sofas, a TV linked to FreeView, a collection of DVDs, a record player, board games and lots of books. You won't get bored!
There is also a telescope!
HEATING
Despite there being radiators, they are not connected, heating is via the electric portable heaters or through the log burner.
There are also electric blankets! These are sooooo nice!
PHONE & INTERNET
There is no landline and no wi-fi.
The only phone service provider that works extremely well is EE. Our suggestion is get yourself an EE phone card before you go.
DART BOARD
There is now a dart board to use in the kitchen!
THAT IS PRETTY MUCH
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW!
